A friendly reminder that you have one more day to register and be part of the action!

September 19th, 2009 is the

24th annual International Coastal Cleanup Day

“Last year’s Cleanup, nearly 400,000 volunteers collected more than 6.8 million pounds of trash in 100 countries and 42 US states — the largest volunteer effort of its kind.

The Cleanup is crucial in determining  the impact ocean trash has on wildlife and how it correlates with global warming. Each year the report is compelling:

Of the 43 items tracked during the Cleanup, the top three items of trash found in 2008 were cigarette butts, plastic bags, and food wrappers/containers.

Get out there if you can this year and help. Be part of the largest volunteer effort…

There is a possibility that we may be attending the event in Ventura…but it’s not set in stone. If you can’t get involved this year, remember that it falls on the 3rd Saturday of each September!!

Will definitely keep you posted.  Have a great weekend!  :)

Will YOU be volunteering to cleanup?

The idea of going out of my way to toss a CFL into my e-waste box or tearing out my front lawn because of a water shortage may seem inconceivable to some. For me, each small step is hopefully creating a bigger action. In my efforts to reduce waste, shop secondhand and refuse plastic it all has a root cause. The root cause, obviously being this precious planet.

It’s hard to realize just how important it is to conserve resources when we live in a country that constantly consumes, creates and tosses away. The impact we have on this environment and how it affects us is often overlooked. The notion of having a lighter footstep is sometimes just that a “notion” rather than an action. How do we continue to share the beauty of nature for generations to come? I certainly want to my boys to show their children the light through the trees as I tried to capture above. The thought that they could even be the same ones is amazing to think about!  Through conservation we can continue to enjoy and explore the many benefits nature has to offer…
