Saturday, June 26th,  is the Great American Campout!

Celebrate with your tots and get outdoors this weekend.

Get out a tent and flashlights & let your creative and imaginative side be your guide.

Let’s celebrate nature together…

” thousands of people across the nation will gather in their backyards, neighborhoods, communities and parks to take part in a one-night event that will provide an experience for all generations to connect with nature. You can join the Great American Backyard Campout whether you are an experienced camper or first-time campers. We have all you will need to get you ready to camp at your fingertips…”

Here are a few ideas:

- Go on a scavenger hunt for natures finest items: rocks, leaves, twigs etc.

- Play Tree Bark Match

- Don’t have a tent…  create one using just a few fallen/cut branches.

- Roast marshmallows over the BBQ or if you have a fire pit… use it! Gotta have S’mores.

and the way we’ve always done it…

graham cracker + nutella + marshmallow creme.= SINFUL YUM!I

If you have time make homemade grahamn crackers & nutella…

do so!

& for the really ambitious you could do it all from scratch and make the marsh-y’s too!

(I know, I know! It’s a crazy thought to some… :)

Whatever the case may be either homemade or store bought; it will surely put a smile to everyone’s face.

graham crackers + nutella + marshy’s = CAMPOUT, BLISS!!!! ;P

- Make magic potions

- Create a homemade sun jar.

- Play outdoor nostalgic games like Simon Says, Red, Light Green Light, Red Rover, Kick the Can, Steal the Bacon, Hopscotch, Freeze Tag

- & need more ideas here are 10 Tricks to Get Kids Outdoors!!!!

don’t forget to stargaze & howl at moon, come light’s out!

Do you have any plans to take your kids camping  this summer?

We’re planning our yearly trip to Yosemite for next month…excited!

What are your favorite outdoor activities to do with your tots??

Hope you have a GREAT weekend, whatever your adventures may be!

This morning, I had to opportunity to  join a conference call with the EcoMom Alliance Founder Kimberly Pinkson and other EcoMom affliates such as myself. I believe they said it was something like 40 or so of us on the phone from all over the U.S. It was so inspiring. I’m going to start an EcoMom page hoping to lure other EcoMom’s out there and maybe even in my town!!! I’d love to hear from the other EcoMom leaders out there or EcoMom’s in general! Let’s start networking and sharing ideas. I’m very new to EcoMom so it would be nice get in touch with all of you!

Alright peeps, I’m off to the Eastern Sierra for Mother’s Day weekend!! Going to Bishop for a little fishing (only catch enough for dinner) and for a little great outdoors action. I’m planning to conserve water while camping because there are no showers available. Just the way we like it! Other than that, we try to minimize our waste by cooking one pot meals and using biodegradable tableware. We also use solar lights around camp for a little light in the evening. If we have a fire we use newspaper and lint to get the fire going! We also have a washer ring that we take along with us for areas that do not have fire pits. It’s been in the family for awhile. I grew up having campfires in the washer ring. Obviously, being respectful to nature while camping is very important. PACK IN PACK OUT is the theory when camping especially when hiking! There’s nothing better than roughing it and getting away from all the stimulus. Plus, it will help me get grounded. I’ll be back to post on Monday maybe even late Sunday! So, HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY to all you mama’s out there!!!!! :)

ECO- GREEN TIP: brought to you by Sierra Club- The Green Life Newsletter: This Mother’s Day, ditch the wrapping paper and embrace the traditional Japanese art of furoshiki (fabric) wrapping. It’s an eco-friendly way to dress up a package, and the fabric doubles as an extra gift. Use a tablecloth, pillow case, or napkin, and try out these furoshiki wrapping techniques to make your mom proud.
