I use Borax and use it to get rid of ants. The reason it is toxic to ants/roaches/ other insects is because the structure of borax gets trapped/degrades the chitin that the insects’ shells are made of. Borax does irritate my skin so I rarely use it to clean my clothes or children’s clothes-mainly use it as a insect deterrent. When I handle it, I do use gloves since my skin will itch and become red if it makes contact.

I did not know you are ECing. Is there any specific place you read about it? I have though about trying it some of the time-but am still unsure.

I use borax to make HE laundry detergent and to clean toilets. I knew when I started using it that it was dangerous if people or pets ate it. However there are many natural nontoxic cleaners/items that are dangerous when injested (ex. tea tree oil is a great disenfectant but is deadly to cats.) so I use borax but with the same caution I use anything that’s potentially dangerous if I’m not careful. I keep the borax stored away from food and do not use it in the kitchen or where my dog can get to it.

Lots of great stuff here! I always thought Borax was OK–its always one of the first thing mentioned for DIY cleaning. I’ll have to check that link out!
