Cloth Wipes

I’ve mentioned before that we use cloth wipes…we just recently ordered from Little Sprouts Diapers where we get the hemp wipes (standard wipe size) and Allen’s Naturally detergent. Initially, I started out using a wipe warmer because I recieved it as a gift and it seemed like a grand idea. A nice warm wipe for baby’s bottom. I always thought that cool water was shocking. Today, that thought has hardened and I no longer use the wipe warmer. For one, it’s a big waste of ENERGY and second it’s a waste of space and time. Plus, the pad needs to be changed out routinely and the replacements are hard to find. I couldn’t find them anywhere in my town. It’s basically a gimmick if you ask me. The thought is nice but after sometime is just didn’t work out to be a convenience item. I decided that I would make the solution and pour it into a spray bottle. This has worked out really well. No wipes drying out or staining either…just spray and wipe. It’s really easy.
My cloth wipe recipe is pretty basic…
1 cup of distilled water
1 tbsp of sweet almond oil, or coconut oil
1 tbsp of Dr. Bronner’s Baby Mild
Mix ingredients and pour into a spray bottle.
I’ve also use California Baby -Sensitive Skin Body Wash and I just add a few drops into a spray bottle and fill the rest with water. You can get creative and use a essential oil if you want to but for the most part- I keep it simple. Now, I know a lot of you are probably wondering what the heck to you do with a dirty diaper when you cloth diaper…what do you do with the poop? I get asked that question a lot. Those dunking diaper days are over! For soiled diapers you’ll need a spray wand (bumGenius makes one) - the sprayer attaches to the toilet, so when you have a soiled diaper all you do is turn on the sprayer and spray the poop right into the toilet then flush! The soiled dirty diaper then goes into a pail afterwards and waits to get washed. It’s that easy!!
What method do you use? Any cloth wipe solution recipes you’d like to share???

I wanted to mention that we used Allen’s Naturally too but after reading The Safe Shopper’s Bible I’ve stopped.
In this book the author catagorizes Allen’s as mildly carcinogenic.
It’s sad that something so many people think is good for their babies body is potentially harming them. I’m only mentioning this because I know that one of the reasons we used cloth was because we didn’t want carcinogens against our childs body. Major Bummer!

Thanks for the recipe! For now I am going to make a solution using my California baby wash. I am going to look into the other stuff. Thanks again!
