This year we didn’t receive as many Christmas cards as we normally do…(which I think has something to do with the economy). We still ended up with some cards though and a lot of us including myself wonder what to do with them. In the past,  I’ve packed them away before as keepsakes until I  realized it was ridiculous to do so as I had too many boxes taking up wasted space. I’m on of those kind of people that have a hard time letting go and can be a pack rat- but I getting better and it’s a goal for the New Year to be clutter free. Other years, I’ve tossed them into my recycling bin and bid them farewell just as I was preparing myself to do so for New Year.

This year I found out about a great program- The St. Jude’s Ranch Recycling Card Program!

From now until February 28, 2009, you can donate/send your holiday OR all occasion cards to:

St. Jude’s Ranch for Children
Card Recycling Program

100 St. Jude’s Street
Boulder City, NV 89005

This program began over 30 years ago it started with just Christmas cards but expanded to all occassion. The children of St. Jude turn the old cards into new. The children also receive payment for their hard work and learn the advantages of going green while doing so.

I think program is super  eco cool. I’ve already started my envelope and have a pile of cards (from previous boxes too- wink, wink, both X-Mas and all occassion). Another great alternative for your holiday waste plus you’ll be supporting a great cause.

What are you planning to do with your Christmas cards this year?!!?! Why not, donate them to support a good cause.

Have any X-Mas card recycling tips to share, pls. feel free! :)

Disney, Go Green Campaign!

If you haven’t already heard CHEJ- The Center for Health, Environment & Justice has launched a Disney Go Green Campaign. The purpose of the campaign, is to help convince Disney to start using green cleaning products at their parks, hotels, and and restaurants- where children and workers face a great deal of exposure to toxics! The Animal Kingdom of Disney has already started using green cleaners but it is the only facility doing so. While animals are precious too- so are our children!!! Over 80 very toxic cleaners are being used where visiting children bathe, play and eat to this day! Let’s help spread the world and make eco history with Disney. The campaign, is focusing on raising awareness of green cleaning options and start pushing the corporate world toward them. Florida has already started a community,  why not, get one started here in California.  Afterall, it is the home of Disneyland/Hotel and California Adventure!

Our children matter and if we can get Disney to start going green- imagine the companies they could have an influence on! Making the switch to green cleaning products could make them a leader in the amusement park/tourism and hotel industry.

I want to enjoy the Magic Kingdom as well as take my children there knowing that it’s a cleaner and greener place! Moms and Dad’s don’t want to worry about taking their kids to toxic environments. So, Disney if you’re reading this- please make the change! Parents have enought to worry these days with all the toxic chemicals toys are being made out of and not to mention, all the necessary items needed for their livelihood!!! It’s up to us to put the word out there and fight for what’s right- which is a non-toxic environment for our children and the planet! Please, Disney make eco-history and become a leader in the green cleaning movement! No more toxic cleaners!!!!

Okay, mom’s and dad’s how do you feel knowing that Disney is using toxic cleaners???
