I love my Klean Kanteen 2. My daughter loves her astronaut Sigg bottle
@Kblogger Hey! Where did you get your klean kanteens? We’re trying to make the switch, but I’m looking for the best deal.
@screamtobegreen Started as a sigg guy, but I really like the wide-mouth of the Kleen Kanteen-although I think the taste is better with sigg.
I have the new Klean Kanteen sport top and it rocks! I recommend it.

This week’s green edition was super!!
La Mama Naturale asked: What do you do with your old white t-shirts and socks?
Me: We’ve been known to shred up both and give to our worms and also re-use both for wiping up.
and the tweeter’s said…
@safemama Dust rags and sock puppets!
@pcanella usually use them for rags for the car, aquarium, outside work etc haha
@CanarsieBK use as cleaning rags
@Anyelday I once made t-shirt yarn. Kid socks are good for using that last bit of soap- slip it in and suds up
@dsfq We usually use old shirts as rags until the just fall apart. Socks? No idea. We don’t have white socks.
@SoyGoy I use them for cleaning rags. Wash & re-use. Gotta love it!
@DelphiBelli tear t-shirts in strips, crochet along with colored threads into sm.rugs,placemats,potholders- socks: make stuffed animals
@woodbetony we make puppets, baby smocks, dye them with natural plant dyes, use them as wipes & rags when they get really worn out.
@MyGreenSide We cut up old t-shirts for cleaning cloths & usually use old sox for puppet making!
@sillysgood rags. and the kidlet likes to wear(play in) them.
@Luvschweetheart Socks = snow sleeves. cut off ends, cut hole for thumb. put on, pull shirt sleeve over then put mittens on. keeps snow out
@cookingupfamily shirts I use as rags in the garage. socks, umm nothing! I think my husband wears them tell they disintegrate!!
@momknitter I like to shred old t-shirts and use them as stuffing in soft toys and things. Socks are great for sock puppets!
@thenaturalmommy I used old white t-shirts to line the doll diapers I made for O: http://bit.ly/qpggA
@ecoshare use them to polish my boots
@charliechap Socks make great dusters (slip them on your hands). That or Sock Puppets =)
@gwellness Socks are fab dust cloth’s for little 1’s!
@JayGregoryT use t-shirts as rags socks dog toys
@tallivansunder We make our old shirts into rags and use them for cleaning. We have used some socks for cleaning purposes.
@littlehumbugs So many odd socks(where do the partners go) use for cleaning mostly. When kids were younger made hand puppets
@rssdesigns old white t-shirts & socks either make good cleaning rags or sew them into something like a pouch!! Reuse! Recyle! Upcycle!
@OrganicSister Tshirts make good cloth toilet paper. Cotton shirts and socks can be composted.
Old tees and socks may also make good liners for multi-layer cloth feminine pads. i used old flannel pjs for mine
@mommyinpink I use mine for dusting too! I don’t know any other purpose for something like that???
@condoblues I used old tshrits to make a quilt http://bit.ly/R05eM
@butterflysnbees old socks: dusting, heating pad (filled w/rice-microwavable), puppets, stuffed animals, potholders, sew into mp3 hol
@balmeras Dust rags. Grrrrrr, dust!
@samotage I didn’t think socks ever got old! I’ve got some top woolly explorer socks that are still going strong after 15 years…
@waste_diverter Goodwill recycles clothing that can’t be worn
http://bit.ly/dWUsQ
@myzerowaste I might have a play with vegetable dyes and have a go at tie dyeing them!
It’s obvious here that many people use them for cleaning rags! I can remember my mom doing that with my dad’s old t-shirts. We do it here too. Worms love it when you shred some up for em’. Lately, it seems my husband has been going through a lot of white t-shirts and socks. He’s a contractor so they dirty and stain easy. I’ve been looking for a place that takes white t-shirts and socks to use for stuffing. My MIL told me that she thought she knew of a place that did so but she can’t remember the name…which is mainly the reason for the question. I wanted to find out what creative uses are out there and perhaps maybe someone knew the info about this recycling place that takes them for stuffing. LOT’S of wonderful and fabulous ideas were shared. I even thought of a few other ideas like using them to make liners for T’s training pants! Can’t wait to experiment.
Thank you for participating!
Now, readers, I ask YOU the same!!

They say being green isn’t always easy…and it’s TRUE!
It’s not easy…it’s not perfect…!
This week’s question was inspired by the fact that going green can have it’s slip up’s. We don’t always live up to our expections. Luckily, with this going green thing there are set rules. No one is perfect. Everyone’s journey is different…to each their own!
Tuesday night, I fell asleep with the lights, t.v. and computer on. I was sooo tired that I passed out and didn’t wake until Clark woke me up at 4AM. It happened the the week before last too. I’m sure it’s happened in the past. Not something I want to make a habit of that’s for sure.
AND- I did a couple loads of laundry before 6pm on Monday. I was trying to get caught up. Waiting till after 6pm if I’m behind on the laundry can be hard for me to do.
Oh! Oh! I’m really starting to get pissed that my dishes are covered in film and are not completely clean after being ran throught the dishwasher. It seems like such a waste of water to me when I have to re-do the dishes. I’ve used just about all the eco friendly dishwashing detergents and they all seem to leave a residue. The Method Smart Tabs work well but still leave some crumbles behind. I’m about to give up on this!
I won’t – it’s tempting though. Hoping to perfect a homemade recipe. Please share if your homemade dishwashing detergent works!!!!
That’s my eco confession for the week.
and the tweeples said….
@pcanella I threw out a can of pop instead of recycling it. haha
@donielle I use Lime Away. But only on the outside of my house where the sprinklers hit my slider. (our water has tons of lime in it)
@Piecemaker We consume a lot of meat products in my house. A LOT. Makes our footprint much bigger (never mind waistlines)!
@suzannetobias I love paper plates. Sorry.
