I LOVE eco friendly books and books that children can learn about other cultures. Reading to my son is an important part of my day and I especially love books that are nature related. One that opens the mind for them to explore and dream about later…
Earth Tales offers a look into the beautiful anthology of folktales in different cultures around the world. Your child will learn how different cultures live in harmony with the rhythms and patterns of nature. The book is filled with eye capturing illustrations. Earth Tales engages future eco kids with fun activities that accompany each story, such as, making a mini water garden or building a willow den, It’s a fun and bright colored.
Earth Tales is an educational book and is recommended for “Read Together” between the ages of 4-8 and “Read Alone” between the ages of 6-10. It would make a great addition to any teacher’s classroom or children’s collection. The stories are all beautifully written and the entire book has easy eco-tips for young readers to learn about.
Seven countries are explored in Earth Tales and it is a perfect book for the curious mind. It opens the imagination with all the vibrant colors on every page. My favorite folktale was from India “Amrita’s Tree”. I won’t go into story details but you’ll want to become a “Chipko” after reading such a lovely story. Your child will learn to appreciate other cultures and the planet through this influencial hardcover book. Discover how the rest of the world is “Living Green”!
In honor of Earth Day, which is April 22, 2009- Barefoot Books is partnering with Eco-Libris to plant a tree for each copy of Earth Tales sold this April. An outstanding cause for our precious Mother Earth~ The paper in the book is ancient-forest friendly. Overall, this book is fantastic for your future eco kid. I like the barefoot book of faeries. We are big on conserving water. When no throwing out undrank water from cups, they water our plants. If ice cubes fall on the flower, my 2 year old knows to pick them up and put them in one of our plant pots. I am teaching her to turn off water when we brush our teeth and all that good stuff

Forgot to add:
I’ve been meaning to compile a list of all the things I do to conserve. Suffice it to say that I live with a constant mindfulness of resources and awareness which allows me to continuously come up with new ways to conserve.
Some examples are:
reusing plastic produce bags (keep them stored in my reusable canvas bags in car, ready to go…use canvas bags for all purchases (though I’m an extremely minimal consumer!))
I use empty dry cat food bags to collect the dirty cat litter and don’t discard it until it is full. (This avoids using all those plastic bags!) Could also use empty cereal bags for this. Use cereal boxes to collect paper recyclables and then just put on curb for pick up…voila!…no recycle bin to carry out and retrieve.
I save disposable paper napkins whenever I get them and have used them lightly. I then keep them under the kitchen sink and use them to clean the floor of stains/spills. (We use cloth napkins, flat large sponges in place of paper towels, handkerchiefs instead of kleenex/tissues, old tee-shirts as rags, etc.). I also save plastic cutlery obtained/used when outside the home, wash them and keep them in the car to use on road trips.
Thanks for the chance to win!

Bear on a Bike looks like a great book. I’m looking forward to reading some Barefoot Books; I’ve had them recommended to me a few times lately.

I like Herb, The Vegetarian Dragon. My son and I became vegetarians 12 years ago.
We reuse everything that we can and we recyle everything that we can. That inclues paper, cardboard, plastics, batteries and glass. We are giving are old electronics to the humane society who will then use them for parts. There is a wooded area near our home and we keep it clean from the rubbish that people throw on the ground. We have a compost and we always car pool whenever possible.
