Bless Me Mother Earth, for I Have Sinned

Please forgive me and let me continue on this green path to betterment.

The hub and I bought a Chevy Silverado DIESEL back in 2005 it was the perfect vehicle at the time because my husband commuted (great fuel mileage) and diesel fuel was inexpensive. It was a win-win. That was then. We’ve done so much to improve our carbon footprint since then that we haven’t really managed to tackle the vehicle situation. Although, we did get rid of my Jetta and downsized to only one mode of transporation!

Fortunately, for me I live in a small town and I’m within walking distance to my little community.  I do stroll up to those businesses when I can but for the most part *I drive*. Granted, I don’t drive much but still- It’s a diesel. On top of that, my husband and I are known for being speed demons. My husband more so than me- shhh! don’t tell him I said that!!!! Anyway, luckily, he no longer commutes with our diesel truck, he drives a work van for the company. A little better. But, when you consider all the equipment they haul everyday inside those vans…plus the mileage it can add up to a very bad eco faux pas!

I work on my eco driving but sometimes I just get caught up in the stimulus and find myself putting the pedal to the metal. You know? Maybe, not. Speed DEMON + DIESEL = serious carbon emissions! Needless, to say, we plan to convert the diesel into a veggie truck but who knows when that will happen- seriously! It’s on our to-do list since we finally downright own the thing (as of this year) along with a million other things. Kind of like the thing I could continue to keep on ecofying in my life.

It’s a journey and thankfully, I can be forgiven because this journey isn’t perfect. Yes, I still use zip-loc bags but that doesn’t mean I’m not doing something to rectify that. AND- yes! I’ve bought my son a few plastic toys and am currently working on my plastic razor habit! Beth, what do you do? This is a work in progress for me- I’ve been electric for a wk. now! So far so good- a bit itchy (more on that later). There are many things that I’m working on to continue to honor Mother Earth and what she has given us. I confessed my sins recently about leaving the lights, t.v. and computer on- and I been known to leave our hose on over night. Whoopsie!!!

You can also slap a big ole guilty sticker on my forehead for idling while the hub ran in for flowers and a card for his mother’s birthday over the weekend! DOH!!! (Hiding under a rock…)

Okay, I’m gonna go say 10 earth pslams AND say “Save the Earth” loudly and proudly.

This is my first opportunity jumping in on the Green Mom’s Carnival and I’m hyped!

You are too cute Leslie!! I am guilty of a lot of the things that you mentioned, but most of all, I am guilty of taking too long of a shower. I mean, the water is so nice and warm and relaxing that it is VERY hard to shorten my shower time. And also, as you know I have very long hair, so the days that I wash it, it takes forever, but I am aware of what is going on and am slowly trying to correct it. It just takes time like anything else.

My eco-confession for the Green Mom’s Carnival is that I do way too much laundry and use the dryer instead of line drying! I love reading everyone’s confessions.

I have a couple of suggestions for you about the razors. You could wax or try threading. Not that I do either of those (well I do wax in the summer). But those are eco options :-)

Oh my mother! This made me laugh in delight! We also drive a monster truck, but OH THE ECO-GUILT! I too have a list of why it’s a win-win for us and I too gave up my jetta and we only have one vehicle AND we walk and bike many places, but still, oh the horror!

Thanks for writing this so I didn’t have to ;-)

Both my husband I drive small cars but there are times when I have to haul something home from the home improvement store and wish I had a big ol’ truck. We’re working on raised flower beds and have to made three trips to the store for humus and will have to make three more at least for dirt. Then we get to buy plants. I think one trip in your truck to do the same job would be less hurtful than my 4+ trips in my small car.
