Last week, before I left for vacation someone offered a “big box of children’s books” on Freecycle. I couldn’t resist. Especially, when the description revealed the box mainly contained toddler books. The box was full of great books. He loves the Three Stre-e-etchy Frogs & Ten Little Ladybugs books. Each book goes for $10.95!

There were also a lot of Weekly Reader books inside which are excellent hardback reads. I grew up reading Weekly Reader. Books aren’t cheap and neither are book clubs.  When I see an offer like that on Freecycle it’s worth taking advantage of .  You never knoow what you’ll end up with – it’s a gamble but for the most part… I’ve always been lucky.

A few other great ways to obtain books without spending  money are:

#1. Most obvious the library!

#2. Zwaggle.com

Earn zoints (points) by posting your child’s gently used items (including books) to Zwaggle and trade with people in your area or in the U.S.  You earn zoints for everything you pass along + extra karma points for keeping books and such out of our landfill.

#3. PaperBackSwap.com

At PaperBackSwap the concept is simple- you upload books you’re willing to swap out and begin looking for books you’re interested in reading! Visit their site to learn more about how it works. They’ve also included Cd’s and DVD’s as part of the swap.

Each entity mentioned is a valuable resource. Especially, if utilized wisely. I have a ton of books that I can swap out now thanks to my new box of books and Freecycle. Not every book is cut out for us so I’m going to take advantage of it and begin looking for other books we love. It’s worth it to be a member of Freecycle, your local library, Zwaggle & PaperBackSwap AND what’s even better is that they’re all free to join! Keep books in circulation and prevent them from rotting in a landfill!  :)

I can’t agree more! We never buy new books. It’s such a waist of money. half.com is also a good place to buy used. We live in Tx and we have Half price books. I also get great deals at thrift stores!
