This is T dressed up for Barnes & Noble storytime on Tuesday morning!

He’s dressed up as a cowboy but he’ll tell you he’s a “Bullrider”- LOL!

We carved pumpkins last night, baking the seeds today- our chickens at the guts out of it…we will compost it when Halloween is over!

Our decorations are from a little old lady in Pasadena who cleaned out her garage and probably swallowed a spider while doing so! They’re old 80’s decorations but they are like new and still intact. I love the skeleton one the best- reminds me of the good ole’ elementary days!

We have hanging ghosts and a bat- they’re actually pretty cool- the eco tot loves them!

We will reuse them until they shred and are no longer…

We plan to BOONESTLE and have a SPOOKTACULAR night!

We are actually going to be Reverse Trick-Or-Treating for the first time—wish us luck!

The hub and I may even get the privilege of going to a Haunted House!

HAVE A SAFE HALLOWEEN!

(You’ll get to see the finished product tomorrow!)

A Greener Shaving Solution: RetroRazor

DSC_0527_edited

Okay, so it’s been a month since I’ve discussed my experience about the Ditch the Disposables challenge. Just a reminder in case some of you are new… I challenged myself to do away with disposable razors. I’ve found the perfect solution too! My goal was to try and find an eco friendly wax of some sort…which I did come across at the Whole Foods Market.

It sounded like a great solution until I realized that it too was disposable in some way. After a few uses I’d have to buy a brand new box again. Plus, I’m still leaving trash behind (if not more)…wax paper- the tin the wax came in, the paper box etc. (all recyclable -but still!)  One method came with a plastic applicator just depending on how you wanted to apply it.

Hey guys! It’s me again!

Time for another round of Meatless Monday- ding, ding!!

With Halloween on Saturday how about a ghoulish dish for those goblins or guests you may be having over. The dish I’m going to share with you happens to be another eggplant dish because the plant is still flourishing in my mother in law’s garden and giving us beautiful eggplants to nourish ourselves with. Oh, and my love for eggplants may have something to do with it too.

PLUS- after finding the Faken’ Bacon recipe I also found this recipe…

350! 350! 350!

3506

There weren’t many of us but we still united!

3503

My sis came with her daughter and she looked so adorable.

You can’t see the 350’s on her cheeks or arms but she was proud!!

3505

My We Add Up tee- cuz WE DO ADD UP!!!

I’m so glad I made it to this event. I met a few new people and left feeling  inspired and uplifted. I live in a small community so the turn out was as to be expected. I was very proud to be amongst other individuals who care about our planet too.

The original plan was to parade around the park with our pets but that did not happen. It was a very busy morning at the park and it was decided that we would stay put and hold our event where we were.  So, we gathered around to ring the bells we brought 350x!

During the ringing the coordinator Leah, discussed facts about climate change and what 350 meant. Even though we were a small group we shared a message and our time together and for me that was moving! I definitely need to be part of these kind of events more often. Having my niece and sister there made the event even more special!  :) 350! 350! 350!

8 Question’s for Derek Markham: The Natural Papa

October 20, 2009 by La Mama Naturale'

_MG_7214 (1)Derek Markham is an environmental freelance writer, a father and a tree hugging dirt worshiper. His popular blog Natural Papa offers lessons on homebirth, fatherhood, and food. He also writes for many successful green websites such as EcoChildsPlay, Twilight Earth, Planet Green, and Blue Living Ideas to name a few! In his spare time he ride bicycles, goes bouldering and slacklining, and drink lots of organic coffee. Follow Derek on twitter and see what he’s up to: @DerekMarkham

You’ve become quite the eco-rockstar on twitter and in the blogosphere….
Tell us briefly how it all started.

I’ve always been a writer, but until last year, it was just for myself – filling lots of notebooks for future projects. When I started reading more blogs, I realized “Hey, I can do this too”, and because I saw so many mom blogs, I wanted to write for dads, specifically ‘eco-dads’ like myself. So I started a free blog on Blogger and started trying to put out a post each day about issues that I felt were pertinent to fathers.

I made lots of mistakes, wandered way off-topic, and didn’t really understand the nature of the web as it’s being used today. As I studied the style of better and bigger sites, I gradually improved the quality of mine. And then one day, I was approached by the editor of EcoChildsPlay.com to write for her, and it was a very flattering and satisfying experience to know that somebody was reading my stuff and actually wanted to bring me on as a writer. Since then, I’ve managed to land more gigs and give my site a little better visibility in the blogosphere, and the future is looking brighter all the time.

With Twitter, I signed up when I saw some of the buzz surrounding the service, but I really didn’t understand why or how to use it – I was a total n00b, posting really boring things and not really interacting with other users. But I started watching how others were using it and tried to emulate them so that I was adding value and not just telling everyone what I had for lunch :) Once I started using Tweet Deck and Seesmic, it became more of a useful tool to me, and I started sharing environmental news links and asking questions of others to use in blog posts.

TreeHugger nominated my partner Adam and I as green ‘Celebrities’ on Twitter last year, and my follower numbers skyrocketed. Shortly after that, I was featured in a post on HuffPo Green, and the same thing happened to me. I began interacting more with others and really seeing the value of it for writers and readers alike. I used to warn new followers “I Tweet a lot, be forewarned.”, but now I figure that if you’re following me, you want to know what I’m sharing, so I don’t do that anymore.

Meatless Monday: Faken Bacon

Welcome to another wonderful Meatless Monday!

This week we’re dealing with eggplants! Eggplants rule! Most people that I’ve come across hate eggplant. I just don’t think most know what to do with it. I’m always looking for new ways to prepare it. My favorite way to use eggplant is in Ratatouille. I do need to post that recipe sometime because it’s a GOOD one!

My mother in law planted two different varieties this year- Black beauty & Japanese and she’s been harvesting them out the wah-zoo. Due to the extreme heat this summer a lot of our veggie plants didn’t start to yield until early September. In trying to keep up with the abundance, I found that the dehydrator is a fantastic way to preserve eggplant and use it! Once I realized I could dehydrate it – I began to look for recipes.

I found an excellent raw vegan recipe using eggplant to create  bacon (except, this version is way less greasy)!
